Processing Fall Color Images with the Orton Effect

The Orton Effect is a processing technique named after Michael Orton who combined two images, one in focus and the other out of focus. The end result had a dreamy glow feel to it with strong contrast. Here is a recent image of mine from Wenatchee State Forest with my standard processing:

Here’s another image from the same grove of trees with the Orton Effect applied. Which do you prefer?
